Contribute to a Scholarship

The Women's College does not receive any government or institutional financial assistance. The College is therefore dependent on the Women's College community and friends to fund scholarships andother philanthropic projects.

It is only through bequests and donations that we can continue to maintain our traditions of excellence, keep College affordable for all, and keep pace with change.

Help a promising young woman attend the University of SydneyannaWH

Finding a suitable and affordable place to live is fundamental to the success and wellbeing of students. The Women’s College, within the University of Sydney is historically and socially significant as the first university college for women in Australia.

The College provides learning opportunities of all kinds to enhance the education of young women. Students are encouraged to explore their ideas and individuality whilst living in a rich, vibrant and diverse community.

Students enjoy the challenges of living with other independent, critical thinkers who are their friends and neighbours. They share the expertise of the alumnae and invited guests who provide leadership and mentoring opportunities across all spectrums

 of endeavour.

Sydney’s escalating housing prices and the subsequent pressure exerted on the rental market, have resulted in a university education becoming increasingly unaffordable for many. By offering scholarships for student accommodation, the College can go a long way towards ensuring that no deserving student is deterred from studying at The University of Sydney. Current scholarships do not go close to the real cost of supporting a student at University. A first year student in 2010 living at College is required to find $23 000 for accommodation, meals and expenses. This amount does not include higher education contributions tax which adds another $5000 to $10 000 to the cost of an education per year.

The Women's College is raising funds to offer a full residential scholarship to a talented female school leaver, who would not be able to afford a tertiary education without this assistance. Our aim is to raise enough funds to offer a perpetual residential scholarship of $18 000 per year. To provide $18 000 per year our target is a principal amount of $300 000. A place at The Women's College provides students with something invaluable, a home away from home whilst building knowledge and lifelong friendships.

Dining Room Chairs

The College recently invested over $1 million on the restoration of the historically important Louisa Macdonald Dining Hall, and the complete renovation of the kitchen. It now aims to replace the existing plastic dining chairs with replicas of the few original wooden chairs that remain. To help fund this worthwhile venture, there is the opportunity to purchase a chair to which a personalized brass plaque will be attached.

o $450 for the chair and the inscribed plaque
o Up to 40 characters on each plaque
o More than one person may donate a plaque (e.g. it might be on behalf of a family or in memory of a former student.)
o The inscribed plaque will remain a permanent fixture on the chair.

To donate a chair, please click here for a brochure, or contact Kathryn Wyss on 02 9517-5008 or community@thewomenscollege.com.au.
