Miss Julie Fitzhardinge was born in 1885 at Balmain, NSW, daughter of Grantley Fitzhardinge, and educated at Sydney Church of England Girls Grammar School, Darlinghurst and Crofton College, Hornsby.

Miss Fitzhardinge resided at The Women’s College between 1903-1905 whilst studying Arts I-III and was honorary librarian during that time. Miss Fitzhardinge graduated BA (1906) and MA 1908 (Latin). During World War I she worked for the Red Cross. From 1922-1956 she was a member and sometime honorary secretary of The Women’s College Council; during 1939-1940 and in 1944 she was Acting Principal of The Women’s College, and from 1945-1946 Principal of the College. Miss Fitzhardinge’s other activities included Foundation Member of the Classical Society and vice president of the Classical Association; she was actively interested in kindergarten work, the Rachel Forster Hospital, the University Settlement and the Crippled Children’s Association. She died in January 1968.
